Cream together shortening, butter, pudding, brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla in mixer or large mixing bowl.
Stir in flour, baking soda, and salt and mix until well combined.
Fold in chocolate chips. Dough should hold together without being sticky. If you have the time to spare, chill the dough in the fridge for about 30 to 60 minutes before baking. This helps the flavors come together. If you want your cookies NOW, by all means, go ahead and bake them.
Scoop onto baking sheet about 2 inches apart.
Bake for 8-10 minutes until light, golden brown on top. Cool for 2 minutes before moving to wire rack.
